It’s a great time to have your very own backyard pool! Owning a swimming pool can be quite the chore, but it doesn’t have to be! Knowing the basics makes all the difference. Here’s the important steps:
•Monitor Total Alkalinity, pH, Calcium Hardness, Stabilizer, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and Sanitizer levels / Check for metals
•Maintain correct water chemistry
•Perform filtration maintenance
•Assure proper water circulation
•Remove debris
•Brush interior surfaces
All six steps must be performed on a weekly basis at minimum. Water testing and chemical adjustment is recommend twice weekly. Knowing each ones function will make your pool safe and a breeze to care for.
Correct water balance through testing will not only assure the pool is safe to swim in, clear and without algae or pink slime, but also protects equipment and finishes.
Proper filtration of particulate matter is crucial to crystal clear water. Knowing the right turnover rate for the filter will assure clean pool water. Having the water circulated to all parts of the pool including around steps, benches and corners will assure the sanitized and chemically treated water will inhibit algae, kill pink slime and bacteria in those areas.
Salt generators and ultraviolet light ozone (UVO) are great additions to your equipment as they will automatically provide the sanitation needed to keep the pool easier to care for and reduce maintenance.
